Pavement condition is assessed using Pavement Condition Rating (PCR), a function of ride smoothness and distress data. PCR is represented with a number from 0 to 100, with higher numbers representing better pavement. MDOT groups pavements in Good, Fair, or Poor condition based on their PCR value. MDOT has established a goal of maintaining interstate pavements in Good condition and all other State Maintained highways at a minimum Fair condition. However, funding shortfalls prevent MDOT from achieving these goals.
Poor Condition - PCR of 71 or below.
Fair Condition - PCR of 72 – 81.
Good Condition - PCR of 82 or better.
